Mobyliscious…Wait for me.
the thing i like about moby is that he doesn’t use many words. but the words that he uses he tends to mean. and they are powerful words. prayer. sometimes literally.

The Suicide of Freddie Mac: A work in progress
This is the first theme of my latest piece “The Suicide of Freddie Mac”. It’s based entirely on sounds created by coins…the first theme being that of spinning coins on a table. There will soon be some counterpoint added to supplement the theme but I haven’t worked that out quite yet. It was inspired by the current financial crisis and the suicide of the acting CFO of Freddie Mac a few weeks ago. The loss of life is not worth the money.
Tunes for download and what not…
Good evening, friends…
It’s a wet and breezy day in the Nash today. I hope it’s beautiful wherever you are.
Quick notice. I’ve recently opted into a site called reverbnation.com to help manage my contact lists, post some tunes, and just generally have a place to organize my musical life. There’s an email list that you can join if you would like to receive updates and what not about my music and musical goings on. Mostly it will be updates as I add new tunes, shows, thoughts, etc. Really the correspondence will be relatively sparse and, in case I get a little out of control, you’re welcome to unsubscribe whenever you would like.
Also, I am waiting on a couple of things from the press before I can release the live “Noise is Pollution: Too” recording to you all…but I assure you it is coming! Complete with program notes (that didn’t make it to the show) and a couple extra goodies. In the mean time, I’ve loaded some studio recordings of the electronic pieces for you to download until the main release. Check it out here.
Electroacoustic in the Mainstream…
Some of you may not consider this strictly electroacoustic…but it’s incredible none the less! Check out Sufjan on “You are the Blood” (freakin’ stunning!) and The Books/Jose Gonzales on “Cello Song” on the Dark Was the Night compilation. And consider buying the album to benefit The Red Hot Organization…
New Links!
Hey all…I’m currently in the processes of adding and updated the links. They will soon be divided into categories includings blogs/pubs, schools/orgs, sound libraries, artists, etc, etc, etc. If you come across anything interesting or worth noting…send it my way!
Preview to Program Notes
Hey all…here’s a preview of some program notes for my show next weekend. Some thoughts on why I do what I do….and where it leads.
Music [myoo-zik]: Organized sound.
Between 1930 and 1965, Edgard Varese gave a series of lectures, which have been collected and titled “The Liberation of Sound”, in which he explained his own artistic work with the above definition. Compositionally using sounds from the orchestral to the ambient to the electronic, he, along with Pierre Schaeffer and others, began to explore the organization of materials on phonograph (and then tape, as now we do with the computer) into cohesive works of audio art that reflected the changing and industrial world around them.
These cultural and mechanical influences continue to be strong today and I, like Varese and the others did previously, find it difficult to ignore the technological experience and aural consequence of contemporary life. Technology is everywhere and is expected to be everywhere. Sonic bombardment is constant and seemingly inescapable. In my compositional work I hope to combine these two daily features by organizing the noises that pollute our world into some sort of cohesive, musical experience that opens our ears a little differently. Some of these pieces will have more traditional melodic lines and harmonies, instruments and performers. Some will have none of them. Some will use easily recognizable sounds. Some will be masked through effects, layers and digital manipulations. All will have some aspect of technological participation. All will have sound. All will be organized in some manner. And all will, hopefully, allow you to experience the aural and technological aspects of your day a little differently. Perhaps with a little beauty and intrigue.
Peace to you. And thank you for joining me tonight.

Classical w/out the violin? Techno w/out the backbeat? Clasichno? Technilassical? What is this stuff?
Hey all…just getting this thing going. I’m hoping to turn it into a place for all things electroacoustic music: thoughts, ideas, compositions, critiques, recommendations, reviews, musings, rants, raves…ya know. A blog. It will take a few to get it up to par, but stay posted. Be intrigued. And hopefully be beautified. Check out my stuff on my website or soundcloud or exposureroom.
In the meantime…check out Breath by Joseph Edward Harchanko. It’s a beaut!
